Adult Addictive Disease

Today, alcohol and drug dependency is recognized as life-threatening diseases. The philosophy at Kingwood Pines Hospital, a behavioral healthcare facility, is that chemical dependency is a treatable medical illness. Emphasis is placed on learning relapse prevention skills. Discharge planning is viewed as crucial to the patient’s success.   Meetings are held with family significant others, and if appropriate, employers and EAP’s to strengthen patients on their road to recovery.

Problems We Address

  • Alcohol abuse and dependency
  • Drug abuse and dependency
  • Families affected by the illnesses
  • Life Problems as a result of this illness

Our Program Continuum

The following levels of treatment for addictive disease are available for adults:

  • Acute inpatient
  • Partial hospitalization
  • Intensive outpatient
  • Individual outpatient by referral

The Acute Program treats adults in an intensive therapeutic structure, providing medical and detoxification stabilization and 24-hour nursing care for patients experiencing critical symptoms.

Partial hospitalization is designed to assist individuals who require acute stabilization without the intensity of full inpatient hospitalization. The partial hospitalization program provides six hours of structured programming per day, allowing the patient to return home in the evening.

Intensive outpatient treatment provides three hours of structured therapy per day, allowing the patient to maintain a work schedule and live at home.

A follow-up aftercare program is available at no charge upon successful completion of any of the above programs to help the patient transition out of treatment.

For those patients whose treatment needs can best be met through individual outpatient therapy, Kingwood Pines Hospital works closely with local mental health professionals in the area to arrange appropriate referrals.

Treatment Components

Treatment for each adult is administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals led by a psychiatrist. Team members may include: Psychologists * Nurses* Social workers * Case managers * Activity therapists * Program specialists * Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors.

The treatment process begins with comprehensive evaluation to help diagnose any underlying medical or biochemical origins of disease, and an individual plan of care is written for each patient’s special needs. Therapeutic components may include: * Individual therapy * Group therapy * Family therapy * Activity therapy * Recreational therapy * Medication education * Drug/alcohol education.

In addition to the full range of therapies, patients participate in a 12-Step Recovery Program and group recovery meetings. Aftercare support groups are critical to patients’ ongoing success, and Kingwood Pines Hospital staff will assist locating support groups in other communities.

Because Chemical Dependency problems may be complicated by a psychiatric problem, Kingwood Pines Hospital provides specialized treatment for adults with dual diagnosis issues.
